Research Scientist
CanmetENERGY-Varennes / Natural Resources Canada
Participates in 2 items

José is a research scientist at CanmetENERGY in Varennes (Natural Resources Canada). He is also an adjunct professor in the Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Concordia University. José is part of the Canadian delegation participating in the IEA EBC Annex 81 "Data-Driven Smart Buildings" (2019-2023), where he co-leads Subtask B (Model Predictive Control). His research interests include control-oriented models, predictive control strategies, building-grid interaction, energy and load management and the integration of renewables and energy storage in buildings. His vision is to contribute to building engineering with a practical, problem-solving outlook based on the scientific method, while focusing on creative and far-reaching measures. José obtained his Ph.D. in Building Engineering at Concordia University (Montréal) in 2011. His doctoral research focused on control strategies for net-zero energy solar homes. José also also holds a M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University (2003, Dean’s Honour List) and a Bachelor’s degree (with Honours) in Electro-mechanical Engineering from the Technological University of Panama (1999).
